Famina is located in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal since inception in 1984. As a longstanding weaving mill, our experience is unmatched and we take great pride in being the leading supplier of school tie fabrics and end product neck ties in Africa.
Our library boasts a large variety of yarn shades and continues to expand. This enables customers to consistently match the neck tie with other uniform products. New colours can also be created as per customer requests.
Our aim is to provide an affordable product timeously to the user whilst maintain premium quality. In order to keep up with the growing demand, we have introduced an in house CMT. This has enabled shorter manufacturing lead times and competitive pricing. In house production also provides for express service during peak seasons.
The weaving process involves interlacing of warp and weft threads to create a piece of fabric. It is an ancient craft dating back thousands of years, warp threads are separated into two interlocked sheets which move for the weft to be inserted and locked in. This creates a weave pattern. There are several combinations weave patterns for neck tie fabrics, but the reppe weave is most commonly used pattern.
The warping process makes up the base of the fabric and is critical in the next step of weaving. Twisted yarns are wound onto smaller cones which is used for our warping process to give your tie fabric a shine and smooth handle.
Texturized polyester and poly-silk blends of yarn are imported from leading Indian mills in raw white and dyed locally to ensure we have full control over colour consistency. These coloured yarns then form the weft of the fabric.
Famina is equipped with high-speed electronic rapier weaving looms enabling efficient production lines. Fabric weaves as per customer order and then is batch processed. Processing involves removing a bulk roll from the loom which is then sent to the next department for inspection and heat setting. Thereafter orders are separated and dispatched to the CMT department or other external CMTs for make-up of neck ties and other end products.
We currently have the weaving capacity of approximately 10 000 ties per week and cmt capacity to match, allowing us to supply retailers in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe!
By manufacturing the end product from fibre to finished goods we ensure the highest quality and quickest lead times in the schoolwear market.
